Dr. Tim O'Rourke
Dr. Tim O'Rourke grew up in western Washington on a "mini" farm surrounded by horses, dairy and beef cows, and of course, a variety of family pets consisting of at least a half dozen dogs and cats. In high school he gravitated toward life sciences, but it was not until his senior year that the choice to combine his love of animals with biology led him toward becoming a veterinarian.
After attending various colleges to fulfill his pre-veterinarian requirements, he applied to and was accepted at Washington State University's Veterinary School. Dr. O'Rourke gradually changed his learning emphasis from becoming a mixed animal veterinarian to a small animal/exotic animal veterinarian. During his senior year there a new dean, Dr. Leo Bustad, arrived at the school. Dr. Bustad is world renown for his avocation of the human animal bonds, and has published several books and articles on the relationship between companion animals and improving the physical and mental well-being of humans. This same belief influenced Dr. O'Rourke's view on the practice of veterinary medicine and what it can bring to families and individuals.
After graduation from WSU, Dr. O'Rourke began his practice in Everett at a multi-doctor small animal hospital. In a few short years it was evident he wanted to create a practice utilizing his own ideas and practice methods. In 1986 he opened Animal Medical & Surgical Hospital in Marysville. In 1996 he opened a second Animal Medical & Surgical Center, also in Marysville. In 2006 he sold his hospital and opened the Animal Care Center Inc. in Mount Vernon. His reason for a small animal practice was an obvious choice since his residence is here in Skagit Valley.
At present Dr. O'Rourke has four cats, three dogs, four horses, two sheep and a variety of fish on his own "mini" farm in Lyman. When he is not treating your pets, he is quite busy with his own!
